Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS) is the most widely performed cataract extraction technique worldwide, particularly in resource-limited settings. It is also gaining recognition in the Western world for managing complex cases, offering key advantages over traditional extracapsular cataract extraction: it is sutureless, self-sealing, and associated with fewer postoperative complications, such as astigmatism and corneal damage.
This brand new course (Moorfields MSICS Training Course) will be delivered by experienced faculty, and offers a comprehensive hands-on simulation-based experience for delegates seeking to develop or refine their surgical skills in this technique.
Participants will benefit from video presentations that cover each surgical step in detail and wet lab experience and feedback with two artificial eyes.
Suitable for ophthalmologists, trainees and fellows.
Please note that you must have completed more than 200 phacoemulsification cases in order to attend this course.
A certificate of attendance will be awarded at the end of the study day and CPD points will be applied for.
For Moorfields staff only the first iteration of this course will take place on 18 November 2025. Please only book this date if you are Moorfields staff.
For non-Moorfields staff, we will be running the course again in 2026. Register your interest by joining the waitlist, and you'll be the first to know when the course date is confirmed.
