This highly sought after intravitreal injection course has had a national and global impact by enabling numerous institutions to establish their own non-medical delivered IVT injection services. With an increasing demand in treatment for people with eye conditions such as diabetic macular oedema, retina vein occlusion and age-related macular degeneration, this innovative model of care has radically reduced waiting times for the therapy and improved clinical outcomes as well as subsequent patient related quality of adjusted life year scores.
This is a hybrid course, which participants can attend in-person or virtually. It will feature live interactive sessions with senior executives who possess great wealth of experience in retinal care. The course will also include full access to self-paced learning materials with several demonstration videos and supplementary reading lists.
In-person attendance
If you attend in person, your day will finish with a wet lab session where you will have the opportunity to practice administering injections on arteficial eyes.
Online attendance
Virtual attendees will be able to watch a video demonstration of the injection process and hear a presentation from one of our consultant ophthalmologists about it, with the chance to discuss and ask questions.
Optional observership session
In-person attendess will also have the additional option to attend the medical retina department for a half day observership on the morning or afternoon of the day before the course. During this session you will will be able understand more about the department based on FAQs and to watch injections being performed (a maximum two injections will be observed to respect space constraints and patient care). Please note that you will not be able to practice injecting on patients in this session.
This course is aimed at clinicians working in an ophthalmic or medical retina setting, focusing on the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion and diabetic oedema.
Accreditation
A certificate of attendance will be awarded at the end of the course.
In order to access the programme virtually, you will need access to a computer (laptop or desktop) with a webcam and microphone.
A CPD certificate of attendance will be awarded at the end of the course.

I am COA (certified ophthalmic assistant) by IJCAHPO. I am the first one from my country, Mauritius island, to obtain this accreditation, and also the first one here to participate in the two-day virtual course, Nurse-Led Intravitreal Treatment. I work under the supervision of Dr Zia Carrim, consultant ophthalmologist at Leeds Teaching hospital in UK and founder of The Eye Clinic in Mauritius. I have always assisted him in preparing for an intravitreal treatment, until I was encouraged to practice. The nurse-led intravitreal course is indeed rewarding for both medical and non-medical professionals. The contents delivered were relevant to the subject, and to me the two most enjoyable parts were the Injection Process by Mr Adam Mapani and Nurse experience by Mr Gavin Kissoondeeal.
