Implementing a non-medical intravitreal injection service

This highly sought after intravitreal injection course has had a national and global impact by enabling numerous institutions to establish their own non-medical delivered IVT injection services. With an increasing demand in treatment for people with eye conditions such as diabetic macular oedema, retina vein occlusion and age-related macular degeneration, this innovative model of care has radically reduced waiting times for the therapy and improved clinical outcomes as well as subsequent patient related quality of adjusted life year scores.

It will feature live interactive sessions with senior executives who possess great wealth of experience in retinal care. The course will also include full access to self-paced learning materials with several demonstration videos and supplementary reading lists.

Funding your place - exciting news for Nurses and AHPs working for Trusts in England

We are delighted to share details of a new funding initiative which is available for this course.

Funded by Roche Products Limited, The NHS Prevent & Protect Training Initiative enables NHS Nurses and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) working within an NHS England Trust to attend UK-based medical retina training courses typically chargeable to your NHS Trust or the individual. These courses support the development of practical skills to enable/maintain the delivery of medical retina services. The Moorfields Intravitreal Injection course is one of the courses eligible for this funding.

If you are a nurse or AHP working within an an NHS England Trust (including Moorfields staff) you can apply for the funding, which will cover the course attendance fee and also an amount towards necessary travel and accommodation (conditions apply), for example to attend the observership session on the day before the course. Please read the instructions below carefully to understand what to do next:

  1. First book a place on the course date of your choice (see below), selecting the option to request to make payment by invoice at checkout. This will reserve your place while your funding application is processed.
  2. Next register to apply for your funding. Once you have provided your details, you will be asked if you have already booked on to a course. You should select the option 'Yes - I can supply an invoice'. You do NOT need to upload an invoice at this stage. You will then be asked to provide the details of the course that you have booked. Review your registration details when prompted and submit your application.
  3. Finally, please advise us of your funding application number by emailing moorfields.courses@nhs.net. We will then send an invoice to the funding administration team for payment. Please note that your place on the course is not confirmed until the invoice has been paid. We will notify you when payment is received.

I am COA (certified ophthalmic assistant) by IJCAHPO. I am the first one from my country, Mauritius island, to obtain this accreditation, and also the first one here to participate in the two-day virtual course, Nurse-Led Intravitreal Treatment. I work under the supervision of Dr Zia Carrim, consultant ophthalmologist at Leeds Teaching hospital in UK and founder of The Eye Clinic in Mauritius. I have always assisted him in preparing for an intravitreal treatment, until I was encouraged to practice. The nurse-led intravitreal course is indeed rewarding for both medical and non-medical professionals. The contents delivered were relevant to the subject, and to me the two most enjoyable parts were the Injection Process by Mr Adam Mapani  and Nurse experience by Mr Gavin Kissoondeeal.
